This is a Wildlife Biologist position for the Mark Twain National Forest in Houston, MO.

This position serves as a wildlife biologist with responsibility for planning, administering, and providing professional expertise in wildlife programs and provides expertise and assistance in wildlife management.

The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.
This position is being advertised as a Career Ladder. Target Grade is a GS-11. Position may be filled as career ladder or could be filled at full performance level. Must be a U. S. Develops and implements wildlife management plans and/or habitat management plans. Prepares project work plans and coordinates project work. Participates on interdisciplinary teams for evaluating the impact of Forest Service or non-Forest Service activities on National Forest lands. Correlates wildlife management with other resource uses such as timber, recreation, and minerals management.
Plans and executes administrative studies and surveys to obtain information on the effects of forest management on wildlife populations and movements. Provides guidance for the development of wildlife management plans and/or habitat management plans. Provides the analysis needed to assess the effects of management activities on Fish, Wildlife and Plant Resources and documents this analysis in an Environmental Assessment.
Provides assistance to other unit personnel to determine current progress in meeting planned programs and objectives. Coordinates wildlife management activities with other resources. Recognizes problems that may develop and recommends preventative or mitigative actions.
Participates on interdisciplinary teams providing analysis of plant and wildlife resources in completing environmental impact statements, environmental assessments, and decision memos for a wide variety of natural resource management projects.
Develops and implements wildlife interpretative programs and other means to promote the Fish and Wildlife programs to a diverse audience including the community, academia wildlife peers, and personnel on the unit. Interacts with partners and other agencies.
REQUIREMENTS:

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.
Bachelors Degree: biological science that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; and at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); and at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
In addition to the basic requirements, the following additional education and/or experience are qualifying. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
GS-9: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a masters degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree (coursework directly related to the position being filled); one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level; and/or a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience.
Examples of specialized experience are: Served as an advanced trainee specializing in wildlife biology and performed common qualitative and quantitative analyses of wildlife resources; conducted surveys and drafted tentative professional opinions to assist in determining wildlife resource needs and remedies; and/or assisted in carrying out a range of analytical/scientific assignments in the wildlife biology profession that included researching and analyzing data, issues, and information that support wildlife project recommendations.
GS-11: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (coursework directly related to position being filled); one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level; and/or a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience.
Examples of specialized experience are: Provided input in the wildlife management program by gathering, compiling, and analyzing data to determine environmental conditions, characteristics, and values, and the interrelationship of wildlife resources with other resources; analyzed data and recommended solutions to problems involving a limited section of wildlife resources issues, e.g., interpreted the effect and impact of changes on wildlife habitat as a result of specific resource activities; provided input in the preparation, maintenance, and revision of functional wildlife plans that involved interpretation of data obtained from studies and field surveys.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
